AP History Teacher

The Role

We are seeking an experienced, intellectually curious and student-focused AP History Teacher to join a strong and well-established Humanities Department. The successful candidate will teach Advanced Placement History courses and support students in developing advanced research, critical thinking, analysis and academic writing skills.

The role requires a teacher who can inspire a deep understanding of historical inquiry, guide students in evaluating sources and constructing evidence-based arguments, and prepare them thoroughly for AP assessments and university-level study. The ideal candidate will demonstrate high academic expectations, a commitment to inquiry-based learning and the ability to support motivated students in rigorous academic pathways.


The School

Founded in 2016, the school is a well-established K–12 international school located at the foot of YuQuan Mountain in the Haidian District, an area renowned for academic excellence and close links to leading universities. The large, modern campus includes specialist humanities teaching spaces, extensive green areas and a bilingual, internationally aligned curriculum that blends Chinese and Western educational philosophies.

Within the High School, the Humanities programme plays a central role in developing students’ critical thinking, global awareness and readiness for higher education, with strong pathways including Advanced Placement History subjects.


Roles and Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality AP History lessons such as AP World History, AP US History or AP European History in line with College Board expectations.
  • Prepare students thoroughly for AP examinations through structured content delivery, historical inquiry, document-based questions and extended analytical writing.
  • Guide students in evaluating primary and secondary sources and constructing well-supported historical arguments.
  • Support students in developing transferable academic skills including argumentation, synthesis of sources, independent research and scholarly communication.
  • Contribute to curriculum planning and development within the Humanities Department, ensuring coherence, progression and alignment with international standards.
  • Assess student progress through essays, research projects, presentations and examinations while providing clear and constructive feedback.
  • Contribute to co-curricular academic activities such as Model United Nations, history clubs, academic competitions or research-based enrichment programmes.


Learning and Classroom Environment

  • Maintain a focused, inclusive and academically rigorous classroom environment that encourages discussion, debate and independent thinking.
  • Promote academic integrity, ethical research practices and respectful engagement with diverse historical perspectives.


Qualifications and Experience

  • Applicants should hold a degree in History, Social Studies, Political Science or a closely related field.
  • A recognised teaching qualification such as PGCE, QTS, state certification or a national teaching licence is required.
  • Experience teaching AP History courses is essential, along with a strong understanding of College Board frameworks and assessment criteria.
  • Experience in an international or bilingual school environment will be considered an advantage.

  • Annual salaries typically range from USD $53,000 to $65,000, with additional bonuses and pension contributions.
